How to Time Manage?

How to time manage?

Do you end your weeks feeling like you’re in an endless cycle of not having enough hours in the day? It happens to many of us especially this time of year when work is competing with holiday planning and parties. Sometimes the best thing you can do is say no to a cookie exchange in favor of time alone. Or maybe you need to change how you’re managing your days.

Just Say No

Ask yourself what matters the most. Is it work or is it getting much-needed rest? Is it fighting holiday crowds at the mall or making cookies to give as gifts from the comfort of your home? There comes a time when the best you can do is say no.

Whether that’s to a family commitment, lunch with a friend, or one more gift exchange, you’ve got to save your own sanity by choosing something more life giving for yourself. The work can wait for you to take a walk around the neighborhood. Your co-workers will still love you even if you don’t stay out at the post-holiday after party. And you will be happier when you aren’t over scheduled and making steps towards how to time manage more efficiently. Take a deep breath.

Switch it Up

Maybe it’s not about how many commitments you have but how you’re spending your time. If you’re like a lot of us, we’re feeling like our to do lists never end. We’re in a constant state of how much can we get done instead of what we accomplished today. It’s exhausting but maybe it doesn’t have to be that way. What if you switched it up?

Instead of to do lists, why not try time blocking? Rather than having 10 things to do each day, spend blocks of time on focused tasks whether it’s cleaning the office, client work, household activities, or holiday fun. Give it a try and let us know how it goes. We hear it’s more productive if you can manage to turn off social media, email, and other distractions and focus on one thing at a time.

Just for You

If you’ve managed to eke out some time, make sure you’re embracing self-care as part of the holiday planning. Turn off the television and emails, turn on music and relax. You can’t serve your clients or enjoy the season with friends and family when you’re worn out.

You may find yourself asking how to time manage. We encourage you to take stock of what is most important, focus on that, and take care of yourself. Here’s to you enjoying everything Pittsburgh has to offer this year!
